About NSS
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Government of India-sponsored public service programme under the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports. Launched in 1969 during the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, NSS aims to develop the personality and character of students through voluntary community service.
At Sri Sai Institute of Technology & Science (SSITS) Autonomous, the NSS programme encourages students to actively participate in community development and social service activities. NSS serves as an important link between the campus and the community, providing students with opportunities to understand societal needs and contribute meaningfully towards social development.
Through various community-oriented activities and programmes, NSS volunteers at SSITS are encouraged to develop a sense of responsibility, leadership, teamwork, discipline, and commitment towards the welfare of society.
Motto
“Not Me, But You”
The motto of the National Service Scheme, “Not Me, But You,” reflects the spirit of selfless service and democratic living. It emphasizes the importance of placing the welfare of society above individual interests.
The philosophy behind this motto encourages NSS volunteers to understand and respect the perspectives and needs of others and to develop compassion towards fellow human beings and all living beings. It reinforces the belief that the well-being of an individual is closely connected to the well-being of society as a whole.
At SSITS, NSS volunteers are inspired to work with dedication and responsibility towards building a better, more inclusive, and socially conscious community.
Objectives of NSS
The major objectives of the National Service Scheme (NSS) are to enable students to:
- Understand the community in which they work.
- Understand themselves in relation to their community.
- Develop a strong sense of social and civic responsibility.
- Identify the needs and challenges of the community and participate in finding suitable solutions.
- Apply their knowledge and skills to find practical solutions to individual and community problems.
- Develop the competence required for collective living and sharing responsibilities.
- Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
- Develop leadership qualities and a democratic attitude.
- Build the capacity to respond effectively during emergencies and natural disasters.
- Promote national integration, social harmony, and unity.
